Summah Learning Time

Just learning about Booktrack Classroom from my friend Vicki Davis, who went to ISTE14. Thanks Vicki! Booktrack Classroom features:

• Free for teachers
• Increased reading comprehension for students
• Increased motivation to engage in the writing process

• Set up for a small classroom takes less than 10 min.
• FUN! I wrote and published a nonfiction story , 2 chapters, in 10 minutes complete with sound tracks!
• Great for grades k-12.
• Good selection of classics already available!

You just never know.....

During 2011,  I wrote specific blog posts about special ed students using online and google tools and being successful with their school assignments,  especially with research and google docs. This success with their assignments led to significant gains in the students’ weekly and trimester grades.

Many people read the blog posts. Someone  at google read the posts and liked the information.

That someone called, “Would you mind if a video was made to tell the story?” I replied, “Yeah sure, that would be okay.” Being a New Englander, I must say, I was skeptical to say the least.

I never imagined the idea would go through all the levels of permissions  I assumed would be necessary at Google, or at my school and with our students.

It did. The idea became a reality.

A couple producers and film crew came to our school, for a week.  They saw, they participated, they filmed. They put together an amazing visual story, and now we in turn are amazed at our story.

It takes a village, and our ‘village’ is getting smaller all the time. It takes all of us to tell the story, and now that the story is out, we welcome the transparency, we welcome the questions and we will help with continuing the learning for all. We are very humbled by this opportunity and want to emphasize that you just never know.

SEEDLINGS 2010-2011

We are BAACK! Bob, Alice and I met this morning for 3 hours by SKYPE. I just love SKYPE. We are all over the state, yet we caught up and made a plan for this year. No big announcements just yet, but we are searching for new guests for our Thursday evening show, 7:30 PM EST (19:30 GMT) at Edtechtalk.com .
We jazzed up our Facebook Seedlings site, if you don't already have a Facebook account we hope you consider getting one, our Twitter feed, if you don't have a Twitter account we hope you consider getting one, and re-affirmed our mission.
In 2007 our purpose was to find a virtual space where we could connect, create, publish and collaborate with others.

In 2010-2011 SEEDLINGs mission remains the same! I think we would add that our purpose is to find a virtual space where we can connect, create, publish and collaborate with educators from around the globe, who in turn connect, create, publish and collaborate with more people.
